Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM)
CircleSource developed a Migration appliance for our customers by migrating legacy, DICOM medical images to a new PACS system. The strength of the appliance is that it can read data from a variety of sources like Tape, MOD and RAID and migrate the data either in the DICOM protocol or in a native format of the destination PACS. Reading from Tape/MOD in native format requires an extensive knowledge of the source PACS file structure and the file system of the media (which CircleSource has developed). Moving the data in native format also requires an extensive knowledge of the destination PACS file system (which again, CircleSource has developed). Reading data in native mode and migrating it in native mode achieves much faster migration speeds than doing it using the traditional DICOM approach. As the data is read on the migratory, it also provides for very powerful tools to clean the DICOM header automatically/semi-automatically or manually leading to a very clean, fast and efficient migration.
DCM4CHE/DCM4CHEE toolkit for DICOM
CircleSource has extensive experience in building DICOM applications using the DCM4CHE/DCM4CHEE tool kit. There are many tools in the market that do DICOM migration. DCM4CHE/DCM4CHEE is a tool kit that is written in Java and is open source. DCM4CHE/DCM4CHEE is one of the best-written open source software packages and it is extremely fast and efficient. DCM4CHE/DCM4CHEE supports the latest DICOM correction proposals and services.
HL7 Messaging Systems (Mirth, HAPI, NHAPI)
CircleSource has extensive knowledge building applications using HL7 messaging. One of the HL7 applications that CircleSource developed is a ‘Healthcare Dashboard Project’. This system sits on the hospital network listening to different HL7 messages (I.e. SIU, ADT, ORM, ORU) and it constructs the relevant KPIs (I.e. Patient wait times, report turnaround times, etc).
This ‘Healthcare Dashboard Project’ has a 4-tier architecture and the 4th tier is the Mirth-HL7-Interface-Engine that listens to the hospital HL7 messages. The business logic is built into a LiferRay portal server that provides the portlets generation and management on the server reducing the load.
Also, CircleSource has developed HL7 interfaces for many RIS systems including Meditech and Cerner which implement workflow processes for the hospitals. In addition to the CircleSource expertise using the Mirth-HL7-Interface-Engine, CircleSource has built applications using the HAPI and NHAPI interfaces.
